Identical Twins Earn College Degrees Together
May 8, 2005 — Brookville, NY — When Katherine Williams graduates from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University this Mother’s Day, she won’t have to search the crowd for a friendly face. Instead, she can turn to the chair next to hers, and celebrate with her twin sister, Theresa, who will be graduating as well.
The identical 22-year-old twins, who hail from Easton, Connecticut, will both be graduating with B.F.A.’s in Digital Arts and Design. Both will be graduating magna cum laude with a 3.78 G.P.A. Consistent high-achievers, both made the Dean’s List throughout their tenure at C. W. Post. In their time on Campus, they roomed and attended class together. “It made it easier,” said Theresa. “We had the same schedule and time off.”
The decision to attend C.W. Post was made independently. “Our dad went to graduate school here,” said Theresa. “I liked the school and that it was close to home.” Both girls applied to a number of different colleges, but when they realized they were both accepted at C.W. Post, the choice was made a little easier. “We made the decision separately, but once we both decided to go, we figured we could room together too,” said Katherine. “It was an interesting experience. I liked it a lot.”
Both completed internships in graphic design, Katherine at Rapport Associates and Theresa at Equal Opportunity Publications. While neither has concrete plans after graduation, they hope to find employment in their field and possibly work towards a master’s degree.
“Before this experience we knew a lot about each other,” Katherine said. “But now we know even more and it’s brought us even closer together.”
Katherine and Theresa will be among more than 2,200 students who will don their caps and gowns on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8, 2005 for the 47th annual commencement exercises of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The Campus has awarded more than 90,000 degrees in its 50-year history, through a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
