Criminal Justice Professor Honored for 30 Years of Service to C.W. Post

May 20, 2005 - Harvey W. Kushner, chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice and professor at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, was recognized for 30 years of service at the campus’s 47th annual commencement exercises on May 8, 2005.

Dr. Kushner isan internationally recognized authority on terrorism.He has been called by law enforcement, intelligence gathering and military entities to shed light on the shadowy world of those who prey upon the innocent to advance their political and religious agendas. He has provided expert knowledge to the Naval War College, the U.S. Air Force’s Special Operations University, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Probation Department.  

Dr. Kushner has experience with a variety of high-profile cases involving international terrorism. He provided expert reports in both the civil litigation case over the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 and the U.S. Embassy bombing trial in 2001. He also wrote the defense’s expert report in a landmark matrimonial case involving the risk of international terrorism following the destruction of the World Trade Center. After the 9/11 attacks, Dr. Kushner testified on terrorism and safety in New York City’s public spaces before the Committee of Public Safety of the Council of the City of New York. He was invited by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States to participate in a VIP pre-briefing before the release of the Final Report of the 9/11 Commission.   

Many consider Dr. Kushner the go-to guy for plain talk about the subject of terrorism. He is a media regular in all major news outlets, including the Associated Press, Reuters, Washington Post and The New York Times, and has appeared on Fox News Channel, The O’Reilly Factor and Oprah.

He is the author of several books, including “Encyclopedia of Terrorism,” one of the most highly regarded reference works on the subject. His newest book, “Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States,” was a Conservative Book Club "Selection of the Month."

Dr. Kushner holds a bachelor of arts from Queens College and a master’s degree and a doctorate from New York University.
