Oyster Bay Resident Honored for 40 Years of Service to C.W. Post
May 20, 2005 - Dr. Robert Keisner of Oyster Bay, who serves as director of the prestigious Clinical Psychology Doctoral program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, was recognized for 40 years of service at the campus’ 47th annual commencement exercises on May 8, 2005.
The C.W. Post Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program draws hundreds of applicants for just a few available slots each year and stands as testimony to the vision and the skill of Dr. Keisner, the director since 1990 and a revered faculty member since 1964.
Dr. Keisner is an educator, an administrator and a practicing psychologist who has enjoyed a long and distinguished career. He has a deep concern for the public good which is reflected in his interests, including professional standards and ethics, and the assessment and enhancement of the sense of community in clinical psychology programs. His compassionate approach is manifested in the program he directs, where candidates and graduates provide psychological services to victims of family violence and those with developmental disabilities or serious and persistent mental illnesses.
Dr. Keisner is a founding member of the Long Island Center for Ethics and a frequent consultant and lecturer on ethical issues. He has been awarded the American Psychological Association’s Presidential Citation for his training of psychologists in the public interest.
He has held positions with many prominent professional groups, including serving as the chair of the New York State Board of Psychology. He also has served as a consultant to the Department of Health and Human Services and is affiliated with Doctors of the World, a human rights organization.
Dr. Keisner received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in 1965 and his certificate in psychoanalysis in 1981. |
