Transfer Agreement for Nutrition Students
July 13, 2005 — Brookville, NY—Students who earn an
Associate in Science degree in Food and Nutrition at Nassau Community
College can now seamlessly transfer their credits to the Nutrition
Department at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, thanks
to an articulation agreement signed by both schools. Within four
years, a student can earn both a NCC Associate’s degree and
C.W. Post Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition.
Freshman students may choose to enroll as part of the C.W. Post/Nassau
Community College Joint Admission Program and, upon transfer, receive
automatic joint admission scholarships based on their NCC grade
point average. Other transfer students are also eligible for scholarships,
depending upon their grade point average. The minimum G.P.A. for
admission to the nutrition program at C.W. Post is 2.5 with grades
of C or better in NCC nutrition classes.
The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition program at the C.W. Post Campus
is accredited by the American Dietetic Association. The curriculum
blends science-oriented courses with a liberal arts foundation.
Students take classes in biology, chemistry and statistics and master
such subjects as institutional food service management; cultural
and social aspects of food; energy and exercise; and food technology.
Students are prepared for careers as nutritionists, wellness experts,
sports nutritionists, medical nutrition therapists and community
counselors. They learn how to serve a variety of populations, from
healthy individuals to those with complex diseases and eating disorders.
Many of C.W. Post’s baccalaureate nutrition graduates extend
their education by enrolling in the Dietetic Internship where they
receive 900 hours of on-site clinical experience in the field. Other
students participate in the 5-year accelerated bachelor’s/master’s
degree in Nutrition or the Master of Science in Nutrition.
