Palmer School of Library and Information Science to Host Open House in Manhattan August 4

July 15, 2005 - The Palmer School of Library and Information Science of Long Island University will hold an open house at its Manhattan location on Thursday, August 4, 2005from 5 to 8 p.m. Students interested in earning a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science can meet with faculty and learn about course content and careers in the library and information technology fields. The Palmer School’s Manhattan site is located in the Bobst Library at New York University, 70 Washington Square South, just opposite Washington Square Park.

Accredited by the American Library Association, the Master of Science in Library and Information Science degree program prepares students for careers in the organization and management of information in all formats and settings in the public and private sectors. Students become equipped to begin careers as archivists, information specialists, librarians, rare book curators and dealers, and records managers in the information industry, information centers and libraries. The 36-credit master’s degree program fuses traditional library science with information science and state-of-the-art technology, providing the digital information and organizational skills today’s society demands. 

With classes held in the evenings and on weekends, students can pursue a degree without interrupting career and family demands. Housed at New York University’s Bobst Library, students have full access to its incredible Rare Books and Special Collections. The Palmer School Master of Science degree is also offered at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, Long Island.
