C.W. Post Launches New M.S. in Information Technology Education

Brookville, N.Y. – Technology can make life easier, more productive and more enjoyable – but only if people know how to use it properly. The new Master of Science in Information Technology Education at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University educates the educators who teach students, employees and consumers how to make the best use of today’s high-tech tools.

Offered by the C.W. Post College of Information and Computer Science, the Master’s program in Information Technology Education is designed for technology educators in businesses, schools, hospitals and many other settings.

The program, which recently received approval by the New York State Education Department, offers courses in “Methods and Tools for Technical Training,” “Computer User Support,” “Computer Systems and Architecture” and “Computers and Programming.”

“The use of computers has become ubiquitous, and the need for technical educators is no longer limited to those specializing in computer science,” said Dr. Susan Fife-Dorchak, co-chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the C.W. Post College of Information and Computer Science. “Contemporary educators must provide their students with an understanding of how computer-based information extends and enhances one’s ability to do work, in addition to teaching specific computer application skills.”

The U.S. Labor Department reports that the computer system design industry will be one of the fastest growing industries in the years to come, and skilled educators will be needed to help organizations put that new technology to work.

The Master’s in Information Technology Education degree will train students in the design and delivery of technical product education, and the design and management of technical support and technical education programs. This degree program is especially designed for those who are already practicing trainers as well as computer support specialists, technical support specialists and help desk technicians who assist others (customers, fellow employees) in troubleshooting hardware, software and system problems.

Classes begin on Sept. 6, 2006. For admissions information, call (516) 299-2900 or visit www.cwpost.liu.edu/cics.
