C.W. Post Launches New Educational Technology Master’s Degree
Brookville, N.Y. – Chalkboards and notebooks are still staples of the classroom, but today’s elementary and secondary school students also have access to high-tech tools for gathering information that generations past could scarcely imagine.
A new Master of Science degree in Educational Technology at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University qualifies graduates to lead the development of technology in schools, using tools like telecommunications, multimedia and the Internet to enhance and enrich the education experience for today’s youth.
The degree program fulfills the requirements for New York State professional certification. It also satisfies the requirements for certification as an educational technology specialist. Graduates are qualified to teach in their certification area(s), e.g., traditional subjects such as math, science, history or music, but they are further qualified to develop and implement professional development sessions in educational technologies.
Participants study as a cohort of 25 to 30 throughout the two-year program. The curriculum includes the Electronic Educational Village, an innovative online and real-life collaboration with Long Island school districts and institutions such as museums developed by the C.W. Post Department of Educational Technology. The EEV, an ongoing program, was inducted in 2000 into the Permanent Research Collection on Information Technology at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
Examples of courses in the M.S. in Educational Technology program include “Technology and the Development of Higher Order Thinking Skills,” “Evaluation and Application of Computer Software for Special Education” and “Presentation Graphics.”
