| Meaningful Careers Begin With Graduate Degrees From C.W. Post
 |
Public Administration major Isaac Oddoye plans to use his master’s degree to improve humanitarian aid on an international level. |
Growing up in Botswana, Isaac Oddoye saw the devastating effects of AIDS on southern Africa – and saw little being done about it. The illness and death of a close friend’s brother galvanized his desire to make a difference.
Today, Oddoye is pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville. He already holds associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, but felt that “with an M.P.A., I could manage or lead projects that affect what’s happening around the world,” the Huntington resident said.
For Lauren Vaccaro, it was the experience of working with autistic children after graduating from C.W. Post with a bachelor’s degree in psychology that made her realize that her true calling was helping children deal with difficulties. “I soon decided that I really wanted to continue on to graduate school,” the Huntington resident said. She found the right program at C.W. Post, where she is studying toward a Master of Science degree in School Counselor.
Like thousands of C.W. Post alumni who have gone on to rewarding careers, Oddoye and Vaccaro feel strongly about what they want to do for a living and know that an advanced degree will help them reach their professional goals. Graduate education provides the specialized knowledge required for society’s most important roles.
From business administration and education to fine arts and nursing, graduate degrees from C.W. Post’s six schools of study enjoy widespread respect from both students and potential employers. Students choose from more than 70 master’s and advanced certificate programs in the College of Information and Computer Science, the College of Management, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Health Professions and Nursing and the School of Visual and Performing Arts. Beginning this September, students can work toward new Master of Science degrees in Educational Technology or Information Technology Education.

Real-world Experience
At C.W. Post, graduate students enjoy small classes averaging only 15 students. Faculty members are dedicated and accessible and the vast majority hold the highest degrees in their fields.
“I find the faculty to be very interactive and very helpful,” Oddoye said. “They go out of their way to share their life experiences, and they make arrangements for students to attend professional meetings so we can network with leaders in the field.”
Fully Accredited Programs
Many of C.W. Post’s graduate programs carry the endorsement of prestigious accrediting agencies, including the American Psychological Association, the American Library Association, the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs & Administration, and AACSB International -- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Knowledgeable academic advisors take personal interest in graduate students’ success at C.W. Post. Internships and practicums provide both on-the-job experience and vital industry contacts. State-of-the-art facilities, the 2.8 million-volume B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library and a beautiful 307 acre campus combine to make graduate study at C.W. Post a rich and invigorating educational experience.
When Long Island employers are seeking well-rounded, qualified applicants for leadership, health care and teaching positions, they find what they are looking for in C.W. Post graduates.
