“Live Fire” Demonstration to Highlight
Sept. 21 Fire Safety Awareness Day
Brookville, N.Y. - A full-scale mock dorm room will be set ablaze on the Great Lawn as part of Fire Safety Awareness Day at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University Thursday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2006.
Naturally, firefighters will be on the scene to knock the fire down. They'll also dress students up in firefighting turnout gear to compete in skills such as "rescuing" a dummy or dragging hose. Everyday hazards will be made clear in a special display trailer imitating a standard residence hall room. The event will feature displays, demonstrations and giveaways.
Fire Safety Awareness Day, organized by the C.W. Post Department of Public Safety in collaboration with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, will take place on the Great Lawn at C.W. Post (720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville) from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21. The live fire demo burn is scheduled for 1:15 p.m.
