Constitution Day Provides Lessons in Citizenship and Freedom
Above politics, above law, above the shifting currents of public attitude and opinion is the Constitution of the United States. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff attended lectures, an exhibit and seminars that explored censorship, voter registration, citizens’ rights and American history atConstitution Day on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
The series of events were presented by the Division of Student Affairs and the Student Affairs-Faculty Partnership Initiative Committee. Here, Dr. Sherri Coe-Perkins, Associate Provost for Student Affairs, introduces the panel “We the People,” which explored the Constitution’s relevance in today’s dynamic world. Featured speakers included (from left) Dr. Neal Rosendorf (professor of history); Leo Callaghan, Esq. (Long Island University Homeland Security Management Institute); Dr. Jeremy Buchman (professor of political science); Dr. Stanley Klein (professor of political science); and Michael Hogan (associate dean, School of Education).
