“Dying in NY: Ethics and the Law in End-of-Life Decisions” was the focus of a half-day seminar held at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on November 16, 2006. The event, sponsored by Health Ethics Action Leadership (HEAL), was instrumental in helping to promote education in bioethics by providing a forum for professionals involved in clinical ethics in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The Center on Aging, within the Department of Health Care and Public Administration at C.W. Post, serves as HEAL's headquarters.
Keynote speaker Dr. Tia Powell, director of the New York State Task Force on Life and the Law, addressed proposed legislation for the Family Health Care Decisions Act that would expand the authority of family members and others close to a patient to decide about treatment options.
