Student Athletes, Coaches and AD’s Comprise C.W. Post's Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2007
C.W. Post’s first athletic director and football coach, the late Dr. Roy Ilowit, leads a class of nine former athletes, coaches and administrators who will be inducted into the C.W. Post Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. The former Long Beach High School gym teacher and coach recruited and fielded the first Pioneer varsity football team in 1957.
Other 2007 inductees include: Gary Wichard ’72, all-American Pioneers quarterback and successful sports agent; Bob Higgins ’65, a football and baseball player for C.W. Post who signed with the New York Jets and who served as president of the Alumni Association; Bobby DeBonis ’78, an all-star baseball and basketball player; Chris Fedder '69, undefeated in dual meets and second in the nation in wrestling; Vin Salamone ’63, C.W. Post student athlete and athletic director who led the development of many sports programs and the Pratt Recreation Center and today serves as director of athletics fundraising; Susan O’Connor ’80, multi-sport, record-setting athlete who excelled at field hockey and basketball; Linda Glum ’83, all-star volleyball player; and Dick Vining, baseball head coach at C.W. Post for 28 years and the first college baseball coach in New York State to win 700 games.
The formal induction ceremony will take place in Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Swan Club in Glenwood Landing, N.Y.
