‘A Dreamlike Journey’: The 41st Annual Storytelling Festival at C.W. Post
March 7, 2006 – Brookville, N.Y. – Amy E. Spaulding, author of “The Wisdom of Storytelling in an Information Age: A Collection of Talks,” will be a featured speaker at the 41st annual Storytelling Festival at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Saturday, April 8, 2006.
Other guest storytellers include Felicia Tedesco of the Hudson Valley, a veteran museum professional and storyteller; Harvey Heilbrun, a teacher in the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District and singer/storyteller; and Pamela MacFarlane, director of the Long Island Storytelling Guild. The event is open to children ages 10 to 16, parents, educators and fellow storytellers.
“Even in our fast-paced, media-filled world, simply listening to a story remains a compelling imaginative experience,” said Dr. Spaulding, an associate professor of library and information science in C.W. Post’s nationally renowned Palmer School of Library and Information Science. “With the storyteller as a guide, a dreamlike journey unfolds, filled with characters, colors, landscapes and meanings as detailed and complex as the creative listener devises.”
Dr. Spaulding’s “The Wisdom of Storytelling,” published in 2004 by Scarecrow Press, has been called a “passionate and persuasive case for the importance of story” by School Library Journal.
The Storytelling Festival runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lorber Hall on the C.W. Post Campus, 720 Northern Blvd., Brookville. The cost is $35. Upon request a certificate of completion and .5 continuing education credits will be awarded. The festival is sponsored by the Palmer School of Library and Information Science, a division of the College of Information and Computer Science.
