Long Island University Announces New Land Use Initiative in
Partnership with Real Estate Practitioners Institute
Land Use Planner Dan Gulizio to Direct Program

March 14, 2006 -- Brookville, N.Y. -- The initiation of a series of lectures and training sessions on land use planning has been announced by the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University as part of its Continuing Education Program. The program, which begins this summer, will be offered in partnership with C.W. Post’s Real Estate Practitioners Institute and is designed to provide a foundation in developing land use policy for public officials, real estate professionals and civic organizations of the region.

In announcing the new initiative, Long Island University Dr. David J. Steinberg said, “We are delighted to be able to offer Long Island this needed educational opportunity through the Real Estate Practitioners Institute at the C.W. Post Campus.”

“There is a growing need for quality training in land use planning on Long Island,” said Kathleen Giamo, chairperson of the Real Estate Practitioners Institute. “It is important for professionals on Long Island to have a local resource without having to travel into New York City.”

In agreeing to direct the program, Dan Gulizio, a highly respected land use planner with more than 20 years of government experience, said, “I am excited about this program, which will provide much-needed technical assistance and a valuable independent research resource for the Long Island community.” He sees the education offered through this program as an opportunity for professionals to obtain first-hand factual knowledge of the zoning and land use planning process and as an aid in the development of innovative land use strategies.

The Center for Management Analysis (CMA) at the C.W. Post Campus will serve as a partner in the program, providing top notch research and management insight. CMA Director Dr. Matthew Cordaro is a nationally regarded expert on energy and environmental issues. He is often called upon by government, the media and businesses to provide objective commentary and verification on vital infrastructure issues. “We look forward to collaborating with the Real Estate Practitioners Institute on the land use planning initiative,” said Dr. Cordaro.

The Real Estate Practitioners Institute (REPI) of Long Island was founded in 1973 to serve the Long Island real estate community. It is a component of C.W. Post’s Department of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS), which has been serving the educational needs of professionals for more than 40 years.
