400 Students to Sing at 6th Annual Tilles Invitational Choral Festival

More than 400 high school and college students will perform at the 6th annual Tilles Invitational Choral Festival at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

High school choirs from Long Island, New York (New Hyde Park, N. Babylon, Plainview), W. Potomac, Virginia; Walhalla, South Carolina; and Inman, South Carolina along with members of the Long Island University C.W. Post Chorus and the Long Island Youth Orchestra will perform.

The students will perform -- under the baton of C.W. Post Music Professor Alexander Dashnaw -- the score of Sergei Eisenstein's 1939 landmark film, "Alexander Nevsky," composed by Sergei Prokofiev. The popular cinematic work depicted the Russian defeat of a 13th-century invasion by Germany.

The concert will be held at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus, 720 Northern Blvd. (Route 25A) in Brookville.

Tickets are $15 for general public; $10 for seniors and students.

For information call the Department of Music at 516-299-2474.
