Transfers to C.W. Post Find the Perfect Fit
March 17, 2006 - Melissa Caruso wan`ted to go away to college. She was enrolled at a community college near her home in New Rochelle, N.Y. but wished to experience the four-year, residential college life. So she mapped out a tour of several metropolitan-area campuses. The first stop was the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville.
“I really fell in love with the campus,” Caruso said. “I stayed the whole day. I never even went to the other colleges that day.”
She started at C.W. Post in the fall of 2004 as a speech-language pathology & audiology major and expects to graduate in May 2007. She has joined a sorority and enjoys a full life on campus. She also enjoys the personal approach to education.
“That’s one of the things I love about C.W. Post – we have really small classes,” she said.
That personal touch is what attracted Vanessa Sanchez, a public relations major from Sayville, N.Y. She spent her freshman year at a large state university campus, but came to the conclusion that “with 500 students in a class, I wasn’t going to get much out of my education.”
Sanchez transferred to C.W. Post in September 2005. “Here, all my professors know me by name,” she said. “I feel like I am part of something here. At my old school I was just a number.”
Transfer students get special attention at C.W. Post. The Campus’ new Transfer Center makes the process easy – expert counselors review students’ records and assist with applications for admission and financial aid. The Transfer Center will respond quickly – within 24 to 48 hours – to requests regarding the number of credits students may transfer from their previous school.
C.W. Post offers a variety of transfer scholarships to assist students and their parents in managing costs. Most students with at least 24 credits and a grade point average of 3.0 are eligible for transfer scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $12,000.
C.W. Post offers a student-to-faculty ratio of just 15 to 1, an average class size of 20 students, 17 NCAA sports teams, more than 80 clubs and organizations, smart technology classrooms and a state-of-the-art recreation center.
