Geography Professor Leads Students on Trip to Africa
C.W. Post Geography Professor Mark Pires led a group of Honors students, faculty and guests on a two-week trip to Senegal in January, 2006. The group visited cities, villages and historic sites in the stable, mostly Muslim nation on Africa’s west coast. Dr. Pires has been visiting Africa since his days as an undergraduate at the University of Vermont. Also on the January trip were Cheryl Halliburton-Beatty, associate professor of dance, and her son Kaliym; Vincent Wright, associate professor of art/music; Haley Menard, a senior majoring in environmental chemistry; Christine Santos, a senior journalism major; Bailey Stark, a sophomore arts management major; and Christopher Miller, a student at Vassar College and son of Katherine Hill-Miller, dean of the C.W. Post College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
