Land Use Planning on Long Island:
Real Estate Practitioners Institute to Host Summer Series

March 30, 2006 – Brookville, NY – From environmental impact studies to special use permits and zoning variances, land use planning is a complicated process. As Long Island continues to develop and grow, there exists a pressing need for a one-stop resource for authoritative information about these and other aspects of real estate development. To meet that need, the Real Estate Practitioners Institute, based at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, will offer a Breakfast Seminar Series on Land Use Planning this summer.

The new Breakfast Seminar Series on Land Use Planning has been designed to provide a foundation upon which public officials, real estate professionals and civic organizations can develop responsible and practical land use policies for Long Island. The Seminar Series will cover such topics as zoning and variances, environmental considerations, sustainable development, site planning, subdivisions and more. Each breakfast seminars meet 9 a.m. to noon.Tuition is $95 per person per seminar. Three Continuing Education Credits are awarded for each seminar.

Breakfast Seminar Series on Land Use Planning:

  • Monday June 12, 2006 – Navigating Land Use Review: Keys to Success. Topics include the land use review process, zone changes, special use permits, site plans, variances and more.
  • Monday, July 17, 2006 – Understanding Zoning. Topics include planning theories from the Garden Cities Movement to New Urbanism and concepts such as Sustainable Development.
  • Monday, August 14, 2006 – Better Understanding the Government-Business Relationship. Topics include what it takes to build the essential public-private relationships that are so critical to land use planning on Long Island.

The Land Use Planning initiative is directed by Dan Gulizio, a highly respected land use planner with more than 20 years of government experience. The Center for Management Analysis (CMA) at the C.W. Post Campus, headed by Dr. Matthew C. Cordaro, will serve as a partner in the series, providing top notch research and management insight to the program.
