About Fan Bush-Brown

Mrs. Frances W. Bush-Brown, wife of the late Long Island University Chancellor Albert Bush-Brown, brought together creative ideas, adventurous enterprise, and untiring efforts in 1975 when she ushered into existence one of the University’s premier educational programs: The Hutton House Lectures This outstanding liberal arts and sciences program still stands today as a model of community outreach and life-time learning.

When “Fan,” as she was known, decided with a group of like-minded women to establish a challenging non-credit program for adult enrichment, she took inspiration from Manhattanville College’s “Mornings at Manhattanville.”  That seed of inspiration in the mind of a remarkable woman sprang to life as “The Hutton House Lectures,” and has flourished ever since.

This innovative lectures series continues to provide the highest level of non-credit learning for men and women from all walks of life.  With an enrollment of over 4,000 students per year, we at Hutton House owe a great debt of thanks to Fan for leaving us with this acclaimed legacy of learning.
