Superstars of Classical and Jazz Guitar to Gather at C.W. Post Campus
for 15th Annual Long Island Guitar Festival, March 28-April 1
Five days of music, workshops and master classes by some of the world’s best guitarists

Brookville, N.Y. – Internationally renowned musicians will teach and perform at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University for the 15th Annual Long Island Guitar Festival March 28 through April 1, 2007.

The 2007 festival will feature performances, workshops and master classes by William Kanengiser of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Raphaella Smits, McDonald – Bianculli Duo, Guitar Trilogy, Frank Vignola and musicians from the Juilliard Pre-College Guitar program.

The festival’s 15th anniversary will be marked with a special concert featuring new works, including the American premiere of Hayley Savage’s “Fantasy for Guitar and Orchestra;” “Rapsodia Del Plata Guitar Concerto” by Jorge Morel; “Dodecaphonica Guitar Duo” by Savage, and “Moving Meditation for Guitar Solo” by Howard Rovics.

Performers will include Savage, C.W. Post music professor Pasquale Bianculli, Joshua Bavaro, Long Island Guitar Festival director and C.W. Post music professor Harris Becker, and an orchestra conducted by Dr. Susan Deaver, a music professor and director of the C.W. Post Flute Ensemble. Also scheduled is a special master class with violinist Dale Stukenbruck on “Interpreting the Music of J.S. Bach.”

The Long Island Guitar Festival is an annual international festival presented by the Department of Music of the School of Visual and Performing Arts at C.W. Post, in conjunction with The D’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts, The Augustine Foundation, Savarez and Long Island University’s John P. McGrath Fund. The festival represents the ongoing commitment of Long Island University to reach out to the artistic community and continue an established tradition of excellence in guitar performance and pedagogy.

Workshops at past festivals have addressed computer music notation, high school guitar ensembles, developing sight reading skills, fingerboard harmony and chamber music. Special concerts have included the "Legacy of Segovia" with Andres Segovia protégé Michael Lorimer, the U.S. debut of renowned guitarist composer Carlo Domeniconi, C. W. Post alumni concerts and new music concerts. The festival has established partnerships with high schools including Greenwich High School and the United Nations International School, as well as local community colleges.
