Dr. Jeffrey Kane, vice president for academic affairs at Long Island University, presents Nichole Pfeifer Griffith with an Award for Academic Excellence.
Brookville, N.Y. – A presentation on “Fighting Behavior of the Naked Goby” by Nichole Pfeifer Griffiths, a senior at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, was judged best of 14 entries in the Ecology/Evolution and Behavior poster competition at a biological science symposium in New Jersey.

The inaugural Undergraduate Symposium in the Biological Sciences at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. on April 21 attracted students from colleges and universities from the mid-Atlantic region.

Griffiths, of Spalding, Neb., graduated May 13, 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in marine vertebrate biology from C.W. Post. She was a recipient of the C.W. Post Award for Academic Excellence during commencement weekend.

Griffiths plans research this summer on terrapins at Flax Pond near Stony Brook, N.Y. She and her husband, database administrator and computer programmer Dwayne Griffiths, then plan to relocate to San Diego, where she hopes to work in research and pursue graduate study.
