C.W. Post Alumnus & Star Athlete John J. Zureck
Honored by Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities

John J. Zureck, a star athlete, successful businessman, community leader and alumnus of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, has been named to the 2007 Hall of Distinction of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities.

Membership in the Hall of Distinction honors individuals who were the first in their families to graduate from college and went on to make outstanding contributions to their communities and the state of New York.

A resident of Commack, N.Y., Zureck was a star football player for the C.W. Post Pioneers who signed with the New York Giants after graduating. He also was a four-year starter in basketball and golf and winner of the Dr. Roy Illowit Academic Award, C.W. Post Distinguished Alumni Award, and has been listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. In 2005 he was inducted into the C.W. Post Athletic Hall of Fame.

Zureck earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting 1963 and a Master of Business Administration from C.W. Post in 1966. In the following years he built a solid professional career at the accounting firm known today as Albrecht, Viggiano and Zureck. In addition, he served the Town of Huntington as a member of its citizen advisory board and is a past president of the Huntington/Commack Community Civic Association. John and his wife Kari Zureck, have three children, a son-in-law and one grandchild, and are expecting their second grandchild in July.

On May 15, 2007 Zureck was the keynote speaker at the C.W. Post Office of Professional Experience and Career Planning’s annual Employer Appreciation Breakfast.

The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities represents New York’s more than 100 private, not-for-profit colleges and universities on issues of public policy. Member campuses enroll approximately 450,000 students and confer most of the bachelor’s degrees (57 percent), master’s degrees (71 percent) and doctoral and first-professional degrees (80 percent) earned in New York State.
