Extraordinary Careers

Kowsilliya Onita Ramnaresh completed a bachelor's/master's program in public administration in 2005. Now a consultant with Deliotte & Touche, she also is pursuing her Ph.D. at C.W. Post. |
Barely two years after graduating from college, Kowsilliya Onita Ramnaresh already is on the second rung of the ladder of her career. Then again, she had a head start - she climbed on the ladder as an undergraduate at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, where students can build resumes while earning degrees.
Taking advantage of one of C.W. Post's popular accelerated bachelor's/master's programs, Ramnaresh earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Administration in health care administration in just five years. She augmented that education with a second undergraduate major, in health information management.
An internship at Winthrop University Hospital introduced her to the real world of health care administration - and forged a connection that would help launch her career. Upon graduating, Ramnaresh accepted a full-time position at Winthrop. Now, she has moved on to a position as a health care consultant with one of the world's top accounting and consulting firms, Deloitte & Touche.
"It all goes back to C.W. Post and the internship arranged for me by the Office of Professional Experience and Career Planning," the Queens resident said. "That's how I've been able to come this far."
Don't be surprised to see her climb many more rungs in the years to come. She has begun the Ph.D. program in information studies at C.W. Post and become an adjunct professor in the public administration program.
Onita Ramnaresh's experience illustrates the opportunities that await students at C.W. Post. More than 250 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, along with an award-winning Cooperative Education program that offers each student the chance to work in their field of study, lay the foundation for rewarding careers.
At C.W. Post, students will find small classes and personal attention from their professors. Unlike many colleges and universities, C.W. Post assigns a full-time, professional academic counselor to keep each student on track for his or her degree.
C.W. Post's degree programs in business, education, public service, criminal justice, health care and nursing, computer and library science, visual and performing arts and the liberal arts and sciences are among the best in the New York metropolitan area. C.W. Post degrees have earned endorsement by many of the world's top accrediting agencies, including AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business; the American Library Association; the American Psychological Association and many more. Most recently, the C.W. Post Master of Social Work program won accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education.
The C.W. Post Campus features outstanding educational, cultural and recreational resources: the 3-million-volume B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library; three art galleries; more than 80 clubs and organizations; 16 NCAA sports programs; Pratt Recreation Center, with a full-line fitness room, indoor running track, competition-size pool and health and wellness programs and Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. The 307-acre campus is renowned for its formal gardens, undisturbed woodlands, rolling lawns, distinguished academic buildings and historic mansions.
