C.W. Post Dance Faculty to Hold Benefit Performance on September 30
Monies raised will support the Post Concert Dance Company
Brookville, NY – Great music, great performances, great friends and a great cause will be on the program when C.W. Post dance faculty, friends and alumni come together on stage on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 7:30 P.M. for a benefit concert to raise money for the Post Concert Dance Company, the resident dance company of the Department of Theatre, Film and Dance. The benefit will be held in North Fork Hall at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
Members of the acclaimed dance faculty at C.W. Post will perform and choreograph, including the director of the C.W. Post dance department Beth Trimm, as well as dance faculty members Cara Gargano, Cheryl Halliburton-Beatty, Davyd Suber, Nancy Brier and Nicole Speletic. Other choreography will be presented by guest artists Karen Arceneaux, the artistic director of Genesis Dance Company, Orion Duckstein of Paul Taylor Dance Company and Carla Menchinella, a C.W. Post alumnus from “...And Dancers.” Special guest appearances include Desiree Errico and David Guggino, formerly of Momix, and Gino Karczewski, formerly of The Joffrey Ballet.
The funds raised from the concert will supplement the dance program budget used for students, including costumes and trips. The troupe will travel to the American College Dance Festival this year and will be visited by the Paul Taylor Dance Company for a residency arranged by Elliott Sroka of Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Andy LeBeau, a former Taylor soloist, will teach Taylor’s acclaimed Aureole to the Post dance majors. The money raised will help supplement the costs associated with these endeavors.
“It’s all been so wonderful,” said Cheryl Halliburton-Beatty, a professor of dance and the coordinator of the benefit. "Everyone involved is a volunteer. We’ve all been hearing from friends and alumni who are helping out by either offering to perform or choreograph. It’s a great chance, particularly for the alumni, to give back."
