Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead
October 5 - 7 and 9 - 14, 2007
The Post Theatre Company is proud to present nine performances of Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. The performances, directed by Barbara Rubin, will run from October 5-7 and 9-14 at 8 p.m., except the Sunday performances, which will be at 3 p.m. The production will be staged at C.W. Post's Little Theatre Mainstage. The production opens the Post Theatre Company’s 2007-08 Season, Shakespeare: Shaken, Not Stirred, where the company will explore and re-conceive Shakespeare and adaptations of his work. The Post Theatre Company is a not-for-profit resident theatre company of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University’s Department of Theatre, Film and Dance.
This eloquent absurdist comedy tracks the misadventures of Hamlet’s college buddies and what happens behind the scenes in the world of Shakespeare’s play. While Hamlet ponders his fate offstage, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern struggle to “be” or “not” in a place that is neither “here” nor “there.” Stoppard’s linguistic brilliance takes us to the edge of “wherever,” laughing all the way.
Barbara Rubin (director) began her career at the renowned Market Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa where she directed Kindertransport, How I Learned To Drive and Julius Caesar. Directing credits include: Antigone Project (Women’s Project, Off-Broadway), Cemetery of Lips, Trojan Women, The House of Bernarda Alba, A Lie of The Mind, Phaedra, Valley Song, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, The Good Doctor, The Love of the Nightingale, Edmond, LaughingWild, The Dybbuk, Hat Trick, The Great Outdoors, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. On Broadway, she served as associate director of Streetcar Named Desire and Dance of Death and as assistant director of The Elephant Man.
