Open House Oct. 8 for New Computer Forensics Courses at C.W. Post

Courses developed by former commander of NYPD computer crime unit; high school juniors & seniors welcome

Brookville, N.Y. - Instead of a magnifying glass, the Sherlock Holmes of the 21st century will use software. Computer forensics is the science that law enforcement, the military and private-sector security will use to catch everyone from Internet predators to white-collar criminals, hackers and terrorists.

The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will hold an open house for its new courses in computer forensics on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. in Room 330 of the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library. The campus is at 720 Northern Boulevard (Route 25-A) in Brookville.

The C.W. Post College of Information and Computer Science launched four new computer forensic courses this month: Introduction to Computer Forensics and Incident Response; Fundamentals of Network Administration; Intermediate Digital Forensics, and Special Topics in Technology Security. The courses are electives in the Bachelor of Science in computer science, B.S. in information systems and B.S. in information management and technology degree programs. Development of the courses was led by Christopher Malinowski, associate professor of computer science/management engineering and former commanding officer of the New York City Police Department computer crimes unit.

High school students and their parents interested in attending the open house should RSVP to Jennifer Osonitsch at (516) 299-2856 or jennifer.osonitsch@liu.edu.
