C.W. Post to Hold Blood Drive on December 3
Brookville, N.Y. – Give the ultimate gift this holiday season. You can save a life, even multiple lives, by donating blood at the Monday, December 3 Blood Drive at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The blood mobile will be located outside Winnick Student Center from 5 to 10:30 p.m. The blood drive is open to students, faculty, staff and the public. No appointment is necessary.
Donating blood is a quick and simple way to help someone who is truly in need. More than 4.5 million Americans benefit from life-saving blood transfusions each year and one in three Americans will need a transfusion at some point in their lives. Each year the New York metropolitan area has to import approximately 50,000 pints of blood from other parts of the country because local residents don't donate enough blood to meet our own needs -- only two percent of Long Islanders donate blood compared with five percent nationwide.
Donors must be between the ages of 16 and 76 (16 with written parental permission; 76+ with a doctor's note), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Donors will be required to show ID and need to know their Social Security number.
The C.W. Post Campus is located at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Eric Lucrezia in the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development at (516) 299-2818. Walk-ins also are welcome. For medical information on blood donation, call 1-800-688-0900 or visit www.liu.edu/giveblood.
