High School Sleuths to Compete for Scholarships in
C.W. Post/Forensics World CSI Challenge April 4, 2008

Brookville, N.Y. – The investigation of a murder, even a mock one, usually isn’t found in most high school curricula. But for more than 700 Long Island high school students, solving a crime will be the ultimate test as they participate in the Forensics World/C.W. Post CSI Challenge on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Western Campus of Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood, N.Y.

Sponsored by the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and Forensics World, budding forensic scientists and crime fighters will compete for scholarships to C.W. Post by solving a murder mystery, gathering and analyzing physical evidence, interviewing and interrogating suspects and presenting their findings and theories to a mock court.

Actors portraying a cast of suspicious characters bring the murder-mystery to life by interacting with the competitors. Members of the school teams act as police officers, crime scene technicians, homicide detectives, forensic scientists and prosecutors. Contestants are thoroughly evaluated and critiqued throughout the competition by police officers, detectives, forensic scientists and prosecutors who utilize a comprehensive scoring system to determine how well each school manages its criminal investigation.

The winners of the CSI Challenge are eligible to receive up to $240,000 in scholarships to C.W. Post. The scholarships can be applied toward bachelor’s degrees in forensic science, criminal justice, political science, biomedical sciences or the pre-law or pre-med programs. First-place team members will receive $3,000 in scholarships to C.W. Post, per year, worth $12,000 over four years. Second-place team members will receive $2,000 per year; third-place team members will receive $1,000 per year. The scholarships are for full-time undergraduate enrollment at C.W. Post for incoming freshman entering in the 2008/2009 or 2009/2010 academic years. Students must meet general admissions requirements, be accepted for admission directly from high school, must complete 12 credits each semester and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
