Remembering and Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at C.W. Post

The Division of Student Affairs and the Student Affairs-Faculty Partnership Initiative Committee (SAFPIC), a core group of 40 faculty, deans, student affairs' educators and students, will honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a dinner and remembrance ceremony on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y.

The event will take place at the Interfaith Center Lounge on Monday, January 28 at 5:30 p.m. This 6th annual event includes brief personal reflections by faculty and students, dinner and conversation around some aspects of Dr. King’s teachings and philosophy, with Student Affairs educators serving as facilitators. C.W. Post’s gospel choir, the Anointed Voices, will make a special appearance. Refreshments will be served.

SAFPIC is an organization that complements students' formal classroom experiences with co-curricular events and activities, including scholarly talks, structured conversations, presentations on contemporary issues and the arts. The theme for Spring 2008 is “A Year in Politics” and is carried through in several events featuring distinguished members of the Campus community as well as prominent visiting guests.  Interconnected with this semester’s theme is an emphasis on the environment, made possible through partnership with the Department of Earth & Environmental Science and through co-sponsorships with the Center for Management Analysis, the Association for Campus Programming and P.E.A.C.E. (Protecting Every Aspect Concerning the Environment.)

For additional information about any SAFPIC event, contact Dr. Sherri N. Coe-Perkins, Associate Provost for Student Affairs, at (516) 299-2255 or via e-mail at sherri.coe-perkins@liu.edu. Advanced registration is recommended.
