C.W. Post Honors Top Art Students from Local High Schools
Brookville, N.Y. – Several talented Long Island students will be honored for their artwork by the Art Department of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on January 23, 2008 in a special ceremony, “Advanced Visions IV: High School Artists of Excellence in Nassau and Suffolk County.” A reception with an awards presentation will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7 p.m. The Advanced Visions IV exhibit, which features the superb skill and expressive content of the art students, opened on December 22 and runs until January 23 in the Campus’ Art Students League Gallery. The exhibition recognizes the superior work being done by high school students in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Portfolio Preparation art programs across Long Island.
“Not only are these students virtuosos in material and technique—they are reaching into their souls and revealing to us the full range of human experience--love, fear, hope, contentment, dreams, tenderness, outrage—it’s all here. Young artists are vital to our culture because they are a link to understanding ourselves,” said Professor Winn Rea, exhibition coordinator.
Reaction to the students’ artistic skill, expressiveness and virtuosity in a variety of media has been met with accolades and applause by university faculty, teachers, parents and the general public.
The Arts Students League Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday, 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 12 noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is located on the lower level of Hillwood Commons, located on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, 720 Northern Boulevard, Brookville, NY.
