About 100 students, faculty and staff honored the memory of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. at a remembrance dinner on January 28, 2008. The dinner was held in the Interfaith Center and included a welcome address from Dr. Sherri Coe-Perkins, associate provost for student affairs at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
"Dr. King served for justice and equality for all human kind," said William Clyde, Jr., director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) at C.W. Post and host for the evening's events.
Offering personal reflections were Ana Andino, a criminal justice major from Amityville, N.Y. and winner of the Martin Luther King Scholarship. Also speaking was Dr. Margaret Boorstein, chair of the Earth and Environmental Science Department, who told a story of prejudice she witnessed while a young girl, and Ramique Green of Staten Island, a freshman and member of the HEOP program. Father Ted Brown, director of Religious Life, delivered the invocation.
Following dinner, students took to the microphone to express their thoughts on the good works of Dr. King. The musical group Anointed Voices performed musical selections, and closing remarks were presented by Jackie Russo president of the Student Government Association.
