Ph.D. in Information Studies Open House February 21

Brookville, N.Y. - Holding a Ph.D. can vastly increase one’s career options and earning potential. But for many professionals, the biggest obstacle to earning a doctorate is finding the time for classes.

At the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, working adults can earn a Ph.D. in Information Studies while working full-time. The College of Information and Computer Science at C.W. Post offers courses for the Ph.D. primarily in the evenings and on weekends to fit a busy lifestyle. Through these convenient courses, students acquire knowledge and conduct research in today’s critical areas of information organization, retrieval, management and policy.

Taught by faculty of the College’s prestigious Palmer School of Library and Information Science, the doctorate in Information Studies – the only one of its kind in the New York metropolitan area – prepares individuals to assume leadership positions in research, teaching and in practice. Graduates of the program will be equipped to fill a documented need for researchers and faculty members in the broad field of information studies.

The Palmer School will hold an open house for all prospective Ph.D. students on Thursday, February 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Room 330 of the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library at C.W. Post. Faculty and advisers will be on hand to explain degree requirements and course schedules. The event is free and open to the public. The application deadline is March 15, 2008 for Fall 2008 admission.

The C.W. Post Campus is located at 720 Northern Blvd. (Route 25A), Brookville, NY. For additional information contact Gerry Kopczynski, program assistant of the Doctoral Program, at (516) 299-2857 or e-mail GKopczyn@liu.edu.
