C.W. Post to Host Blood Drive on March 4 and 5
Brookville, N.Y. – To help blood banks that are reaching critically low inventory levels, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will host a blood drive on Tuesday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. in the East/West Café in Hillwood Commons. The blood drive is open to students, faculty, staff and the public. No appointment is necessary.
Donating blood is a quick and simple way to help someone who is truly in need. More than 4.5 million Americans benefit from life-saving blood transfusions each year and one in three Americans will need a transfusion at some point in his or her life. Each year the New York metropolitan area has to import approximately 50,000 pints of blood from other parts of the country because local residents don’t donate enough blood to meet our own needs -- only two percent of Long Islanders donate blood compared with five percent nationwide.
Donors must be between the ages of 16 and 76 (16 with written parental permission; 76+ with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds, have not gotten a tattoo in the last 12 months and are in generally good health. Donors will be required to show ID and need to know their Social Security number.
All participants will receive a coupon good at Subway in the campus’ Hillwood Commons, a t-shirt and soup from Ben’s Deli. There also will be a raffle.
The C.W. Post Campus is located at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (516) 299-2611 or e-mail eric.lucrezia@liu.edu. Walk-ins are also welcome. For medical information on blood donation, call 1-800-688-0900.
