C.W. Post Orchestra to Perform at Tilles Center
C.W. Post String Ensemble and Long Island University Chorus are featured performers

The C.W. Post Orchestra, conducted by Maureen Hynes, will present a concert featuring the works of six composers on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 8:15 p.m. at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville. The event is open to the public.

The program includes Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 in D “London,” Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8 in G minor, Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, Faure’s Pavane, Op. 50, Anderson’s Blue Tango and Sibelius’ Finlandia.

The performance will also feature the C.W. Post String Ensemble and the Long Island University Chorus under the direction of Alexander Dashnaw.

Professor Hynes, co-founder of the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival, enjoys an active career as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher. She performs with the American Ballet Theater, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Orchestra of New York, American Composers Orchestra, New York Virtuosi, the Westchester Philharmonic and the Long Island Philharmonic. A professor of cello and director of string studies at C.W. Post, Professor Hynes also serves as a member of the Pierrot Consort, director of orchestral studies, director of the string ensemble and director of the Merriweather Consort.

A former full-time faculty member at C.W. Post, Dashnaw has conducted the Long Island University Chorus at every major concert hall in New York City with internationally renowned acts including the National Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Sydney (Australia) Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work at Long Island University, Professor Dashnaw has been artistic director of many festivals, including the Manhattan Choral Festival, the Chicago Choral Festival, the Pacific Choral Festival in San Francisco, the Atlanta Choral Festival, the Jubilee Festival in Washington, D.C., and the Strathclyde Festival in Glasgow, Scotland.
