27th Summer Season of the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival at C.W. Post Campus/Long Island University
Brookville, NY – Audition dates for the 27th Summer Season of the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival are from mid-April through early June and will be held for interested instrumentalists on the following dates: Sunday, April 13, Sunday, May 4, Monday, May 5, Sunday, May 18, Monday, May 19, Sunday, June 1, Monday, June 2, or by special appointment.
Gifted and talented young musicians on Long Island and in the New York City metropolitan area, have the opportunity to participate in a rich musical experience at the 27th Summer Season of the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival being held July 14 through August 1 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville. The Festival’s primary focus is the study and performance of standard instrumental chamber music, including string quartets woodwind quintets and mixed chamber ensembles. The Festival also includes a series of instrumental and performance master classes, a concerto competition, chamber orchestras, and a series of public concerts at Hillwood Recital Hall and Tilles Center featuring The Pierrot Consort, the faculty ensemble-in-residence at C.W. Post Campus/Long Island University, Festival Artists, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Festival Chamber Orchestra and well known guest artists: Larry Dutton, violist with the Emerson String Quartet and Timothy Eddy, cellist of the Orion String Quartet. Both Mr. Dutton and Mr. Eddy will perform with The Pierrot Consort and give Special Master Classes during the Festival. This summer's schedule will also include educational residencies with members of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
This year, approximately 120 instrumentalists will be selected through auditions to participate in the three-week festival. The C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival includes the artistry program for young professionals and pre-formed chamber ensembles, a performance program for college & conservatory musicians, an advanced program for students ages 15 to 18 and a seminar program for students ages 9 to 14. The Festival’s commitment to music education and chamber music is the focus of a new program for Music Educators entitled “Advancement of Chamber Music”. This program will assist Music Educators who are interested in developing chamber music programs at their schools, or who are interested in further developing existing programs for their students.
In addition to chamber music, the Festival includes Musicianship Classes, Individual Master Classes, Chamber Music Performance Classes, and a Conducting Program. The Festival's Conducting Program is an overview of conducting and rehearsal techniques, score study, musical style and full orchestral and chamber orchestral repertoire. Conducting participants attend master classes, receive training with the Conductors’ Ensemble and actively observe rehearsals of the Festival Chamber Orchestra.
The Chamber Music Festival is available on a non-credit basis or students may elect to earn undergraduate or graduate credits for participation. High school students may earn college credit through the High School Enrichment Program. The non-refundable application/audition fee is $35. Festival fees and tuition vary with scheduled participation and programs within the three-week program. Scholarships, fellowships and Tilles Center Scholar Awards will be available.
