Senior Economic Advisor from American Petroleum Institute
to Discuss America’s Energy Future at C.W. Post April 7

Brookville, N.Y. – Recent studies by the petroleum industry find that despite being the largest consumer of energy across the world, Americans know very little about where energy comes from, what it takes to get it to market and the challenges the energy industry faces to meet growing demand. As the need for energy continues to increase, so does the role of America’s oil and natural gas companies in the worldwide economy.

Rayola Dougher, a senior economic advisor for the American Petroleum Institute, will present, “Delivering America’s Energy Security: The Challenges We Face,” on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. in the Hillwood Commons Cinema on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The event is free and open to the public.

With more than 25 years experience in energy, economic and environmental analysis, Dougher will address a number of vital issues, including the extent of the public’s current knowledge about energy demand, the role of America’s oil and natural gas companies, the industry’s significant investments in emerging energy technologies and projections for future energy demand.

The presentation, which is sponsored by the C.W. Post Center for Management Analysis, will be moderated by Professor Matthew Cordaro, Ph.D.

“With oil costing over $100 a barrel due to supply and demand concerns, as well as speculation and geopolitical events, this program has special significance for the Long Island region,” said Dr. Cordaro. “Long Island presently experiences some of the highest costs for energy in the country.”

Dougher has been with the API since 1985 and is the author or co-author of numerous economic research studies covering a diverse range of topics including gasoline taxes, energy conservation and competition in retail markets. She is currently one of API’s principal spokespersons and leads efforts to inform policymakers, media and the public on energy market issues and trends. In addition to testifying before federal and state legislators, she has participated in many newspaper and radio interviews and appears on television frequently. Dougher holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the State University of New York at Brockport and a master’s degree in economic development and East Asian studies from American University.

The C.W. Post Campus is located at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville, New York. A special reception immediately precedes the program at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited. Admission is free. For more information, please contact Dr. Matthew Cordaro at matthew.cordaro@liu.edu.
