C.W. Post to Celebrate 50th Commencement

Graduation on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University marks the Campus' 50th commencement exercise. The first graduates from 1958 consisted of seven men and one women, all of whom were transfers to what was then called C.W. Post College.

The first commencement was held on a grassy knoll at the foot of the campus' famed rose arbor on June 7, 1958. About 500 guests were in attendance. Speakers included William Zeckendorf, president of the Long Island University Board of Trustees, and Admiral Richard L. Conolly, president of C.W. Post College and Long Island University. The commencement address, “A Time of Personal Inventory,” was delivered by Harry J. Carman, dean emeritus of Columbia University, and honorary degrees were conferred upon Dr. Carman, Rear Admiral Richard Waller Bates and C.W. Post Associate Professor of History Arthur C. Cole.
