Bailey Stark Named Salutatorian for the Class of 2008 at C.W. Post
Brookville, N.Y. -- Bailey Stark, 21, a resident of Salamanca, N.Y. and an honors student majoring in arts management has been named Salutatorian for the Class of 2008 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, campus officials announced today, March 27.
For the first time in the history of C.W. Post, two students have been named Salutatorian. Also named to the honor is Ambar Arancibia, 21, a resident of Westbury, N.Y. Students are judged on their G.P.A., number of credits taken in residence, a personal essay, recommendations and an interview with the selection committee.
“Both Ambar and Bailey are dynamic, extraordinary students,” said Joseph Shenker, provost of the C.W. Post Campus. “After much debate, the committee came to the realization that they are both very deserving of this high distinction.”
Stark will receive the Bachelor of Fine Arts in arts management with a concentration in theatre. A member of the C.W. Post Honors Program, she has traveled extensively during her tenure at C.W. Post, including an anthropology-based trip to France with the Honors Program, Senegal in West Africa and Prague with the Post Theatre Company. She has also been to England, Luxembourg, Germany and Canada.
Stark is an invaluable member of the C.W. Post community. She is an active member of the Theatre Department, the Post Theatre Company and Tilles Center of the Performing Arts. Thanks to her hard work and diligence, the PTC production of Third Child was accepted and staged at the Prague Fringe Festival in the summer of 2007. While the New York Philharmonic held a residency with C.W. Post’s Department of Music, Stark played a big role in coordinating the logistics of the various events and served as a go-between for many of the sponsors. She has extensive interning experience including work at the Big Apple Circus, Tilles Center, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Dramatist’s Guild of America. After she graduates, she plans to stay in the New York City area to pursue a career in development or arts education. Ultimately, she would like to work in the administrative offices of a circus.
The salutatorian is selected by a committee comprised of faculty and administrators. The C.W. Post Campus’ 50th Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2008.
