C.W. Post Earthfest 2008 Goes Back to Nature with L.I.U.

Brookville, N.Y. —From the land to the air to everything in between, preserving the environment for future generations is a must. To address this important issue, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will host Earthfest 2008: Back to Nature with L.I.U., on Monday, April 21, 2007.

Sponsored by P.E.A.C.E. (Protecting Every Aspect Concerning the Environment), Earthfest seeks to raise awareness and encourage participation in “green” efforts through environmental education outreach by promoting pollution prevention, homeland security with energy independence, air quality improvement, climate change reduction and the creation of jobs with cleaner fuels.

Among the planned events for Earthfest are:

• “Rise and Shine” — Grab a cup of coffee and make your own trail mix. Get a free reusable mug. Co-sponsored with the Commuter Student Association, 8 a.m., Hillwood Commons Lobby.
Environmental Fair — Participate in eco-friendly crafts, speak with members of local environmental organizations and campus departments, and buy a raffle ticket to win a new bike, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Hillwood Commons Lobby and Fishbowl.

P.E.A.C.E. is a student organization committed to protecting the environment. Led by president Janelle Hrycik, the organization regularly engages environmental leadership activities to promote conservation. In 2007 the group worked with Campus administration to implement a recycling program for resident students.

P.E.A.C.E. also is a supporter of the Green and Gold Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility, which is made at C.W. Post's commencement exercises on May 11. Students who participate are pledging to evaluate the broader consequences of any job they take by being attentive to the social and environmental consequences of their actions. P.E.A.C.E. also formed a campus chapter of Focus the Nation, which seeks to educate colleges and schools across the country about global climate change.

All events are free and open to the public except the concert. For more information about Earthfest, contact Janelle Hrycik at janelleyfish@aol.com.
