Greening the Suburbs

C.W. Post Geography Professor Scott Carlin presented two Earth Day-related presentations on Long Island . Dr. Carlin spoke at SUNY Old Westbury on April 22, 2008 and the Long Island Green Expo at the Brentwood Campus of Suffolk Community College on April 26 on "Greening the Suburbs." Dr. Carlin wrote a similarly titled article for Newsday last December. "One of the major challenges we face is developing a vision of suburbia that shrinks our ecological footprint," said Dr. Carlin. "The 21st century will either be framed by increasing natural resource scarcities and wars or by greater global cooperation. Those choices begin here at home." Dr. Carlin is a geographer in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science.
