Glen Cove, Then and Now

The John Duryea House was built for a member of the Duryea starch works family in 1880. It has tiffany windows, 24 rooms with chestnut woodwork and 8 fireplaces. Later it was the family home of Clara Burling Roesch Herdt, an internationally known orchestra conductor who founded the Long Island Singers. After her death in 2001 the building was declared a landmark. The house remains a private residence.
