Outsourcing Options to be Key Topic at Convention
C.W. Post Professor to lead 7th Annual International "Smart-Sourcing" Conference

As the world economy continues to change, global outsourcing has become an accepted business strategy of multi-national corporations and small- and medium-sized enterprises. At the Seventh Annual International Smart-Sourcing Conference, hosted by the Center for Global Outsourcing (CGO) and chaired by Dr. Shailendra Palvia, principal of CGO and director of Management Information Systems at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, attendees will re-evaluate and redefine "smart-sourcing" and discuss how it is a critical component of a business' strategy and competitive advantage.

According to Dr. Palvia, an increasing number of companies are opting to outsource critical business operations and projects to independent workers, consultants and highly specialized companies. "The benefits are two-fold," said Dr. Palvia. "Workers retain their independence under a freelance arrangement, while the company saves money on employee benefits and overhead. That can be good for the American and international economies because strong, not weak, companies are the ones hiring."

Among other world renowned experts, Mr. Kiran Karnik, former president of www.Nasscom.org, will be a keynote speaker. The theme of this year's conference is Global Sourcing of Services: Vision 2020." Karnik was a widely acclaimed keynote speaker at a one-day conference organized by Columbia Business School on April 19. Other keynote speakers include Dr. Rathi Dasgupta, Dr. Pradeep Mukherji, Dr. Zareen Karani and Dr. Subbu Murthy. Dr. Shailendra Palvia, Professor of MIS at Long Island University, is the international conference chairperson. He has increasingly been recognized as an expert in global outsourcing issues and challenges. "This conference aims to provide tremendous value for small- to medium-size client companies in advanced countries such as the United States and Western Europe and also for small- to medium-size vendor companies in developing countries like India and China," said Dr. Palvia. The conference has nine tracks on diverse areas and issues related to global sourcing of IT and ITES.

The conference will be held in Hyderabad City, India on August 8-9, 2008. For more information on outsourcing and the Center for Global Outsourcing, e-mail admin@outsourceglobal.org, call (770) 649-6718 or visit www.outsourceglobal.org.
