“Antiques Roadshow” Appraiser Alan Fausel to Speak at C.W. Post Department of Continuing Education sponsoring Art and Antiques Open House on September 13
Brookville, N.Y. – What are the most striking differences between a priceless antique and a well-crafted, yet worthless knock-off? What sets a 15th century Old Master apart from a 20th century Modern work of art?
Respected appraiser and TV personality Alan Fausel, who oversees Bonhams’ Fine Arts Department in New York and is a painting appraiser for the PBS TV series “Antiques Roadshow,” will be the guest speaker at the Art and Antiques Open House sponsored by the Continuing Education Department at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The open house will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Humanities Hall, Room 119. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Fausel brings with him almost 30 years of art-world experience as a scholar, curator and appraiser. He is a generalist appraiser in paintings and drawings from Old Master to Modern, as well as an appraiser of European furniture and decorations. He has spent 16 years with the auction houses of Butterfields in San Francisco and Doyle in New York, and currently oversees Bonhams Fine Arts Department in New York where he conducts regular sales of American, European and Old Master paintings. He also participates with Bonhams London office in the annual sale devoted to paintings related to dogs. He teaches at New York University in the Graduate School of Arts Education and is a frequent lecturer to groups, including the Appraiser’s Association of America.
At the open house, participants also will receive information on C.W. Post’s Art and Antiques Certificate, a program comprised of six required and four elective courses which provide both the neophyte and the experienced dealer with a good understanding of art found in museums, auction houses, galleries and antiques shops around the world. The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is located at 720 Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) in Brookville. Call (516) 299-2236 for more information and to reserve a place at the open house.
