C.W. Post Social Work Professor Elissa Giffords Appointed to Board of Directors of the National Lupus Alliance of America

Elissa Giffords, DSW, LCSW, associate professor of social work at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, has been appointed to the National Lupus Alliance of America Board of Directors.

"I am very excited to be part of the National Lupus Alliance of America." Dr. Giffords said. "Some of the most powerful ways to help people with lupus and their families is to provide quality services and fund research efforts. I look forward to using my skills and experience to work with the other board members to meet the goals and mission of the Alliance and its affiliate members."

Dr. Giffords, a widely respected and active member of the health and human services communities, serves on a number of boards and committees including the Long Island Health Access Monitoring Project, a group that advocates for improving access to healthcare for underserved populations. She also serves as the chair of the Commissioner's Advisory Council of the Nassau County Department of Social Services.

In 2004 Dr. Giffords received the National Association of Social Workers, New York State Nassau Division Social Worker of the Year Award. In 2008 she received the NASW New York State Social Worker of the Year Award and the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University College of Management Recognition Award for Teaching Excellence.

The Lupus Alliance of America provides resources and support to improve the lives of patients with lupus. They do this by developing and distributing resources to be used locally where individuals can benefit. It provides affiliate members with the necessary education, tools and support to enhance and expand their current services.
