C.W. Post School of Education Dean Dr. Robert Manheimer to Receive Prestigious Golden Apple Award from March of Dimes
Teachers often receive apples from their students. Dr. Robert Manheimer, dean of the School of Education and associate professor at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, will soon receive a golden one for his outstanding work in the field of education. Dr. Manheimer was recently selected as a recipient of the 2008 March of Dimes prestigious Golden Apple Award.
Golden Apple honorees have not only made a difference in the field of education but have also devoted a considerable amount of their own time to help and assist others in a variety of ways. Dr. Manheimer will be presented with the award on Nov. 13 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
Dr. Manheimer oversees one of the most recognizable schools of education in the northeast. The C.W. Post School of Education, which is affiliated with over 80 school districts in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and Westchester counties, offers more than 90 bachelor's, master's, dual degree and certificate programs that focus on various stages of a child's development: infancy, pre-school, elementary school, middle school and high school.
Prior to joining C.W. Post, Dr. Manheimer began his extensive educational career as a science teacher in Brooklyn, rising in the administrative ranks to assistant principal of the high school and assistant to the Superintendent of Schools in the Syosset School District. He also served for 15 years as the superintendent of schools at the Jericho School District. He taught as an adjunct professor at the New York Institute of Technology and C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
Complementing his educational background, Dr. Manheimer has designed educational toys for Creative Play Things and served as a consultant for software design for student management.
Dr. Manheimer holds a bachelor’s degree in science education from Brooklyn College and a master’s degree and Ed.D. from Columbia University Teacher’s College. He has won numerous awards and citations from groups such as the United States Senate, the New York State Assembly, the New York State Senate, and the Governor’s Office of New York.
The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality, while increasing awareness. Since 1938, this not-for- profit health organization has been providing community services, research, education and advocacy programs. Funds from events such as the Golden Apple Awards Dinner help support these projects.
