C.W. Post, Eastern Suffolk BOCES to Host Information Session on Becoming a School District Business Leader February 28
Graduate-level advanced certificate program leads to state certification; great career option for those with finance, accounting or management skills; 50 percent tuition discount
Brookville, N.Y. – People with finance, accounting or management experience seeking new careers may find that their background is ideal preparation for positions as school district business leaders. The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and Eastern Suffolk BOCES will present an information session on the C.W. Post graduate-level Advanced Certificate in School District Business Leader on Saturday, February 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Sherwood Corporate Center in Holbrook, N.Y.
The 30-credit program can be completed in 12 to 18 months and is offered at a 50 percent discount off regular tuition rates. Classes will be held at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Instructional Support Center in Holbrook.
“There is a need for school district leaders in this region – someone who knows how to balance revenues against expenditures and how you go about managing the protocols of a business office,” said Arnold Dodge, chairman of the Department of Educational Leadership and Administration and an assistant professor of education at C.W. Post. “With today’s standards of auditing and financial scrutiny, school districts are clamoring for people with business acumen.”
The Advanced Certificate in School District Business Leader is particularly desirable for those who have been recently downsized and have a master’s degree in accounting or an M.B.A., although a master’s degree in any field will be accepted for the program. This 30-credit program prepares graduates for positions as assistant, associate or deputy superintendent for business in public and private K-12 schools. Courses will cover public school finance, the school budget process, accounting, purchasing, insurance, school law, personnel and staffing decisions, bargaining agreements, and school district administration. Under the mentorship of a school administrator, students complete a 400-hour hands-on internship in a school business office.
The information session will feature presentations by Dr. Dodge and representatives of the Association of School District Business Officials. Representatives of C.W. Post will help evaluate attendees’ experience and education and explain certification requirements. Light breakfast will be served.
For more information or to reserve a seat, contact Carol Soucie at (516) 299-2244 or Arnold.Dodge@liu.edu. In case of inclement weather, the information session will be
held March 7.
