Annual Long Island Radio & TV Day at C.W. Post

Brookville, NY - The Long Island Wireless Historical Society and WCWP Radio, the campus radio station of C.W. Post, are once again joining forces to honor the rich history and current issues of radio.
Long Island Radio & TV Day will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Atrium of the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
Featured speakers will include John Leita, an investigative reporter, who will present a lecture on “L.I. radio history, including Camp Hero legends” at 12 noon; as well as Marc Seifer, the author of “The Life & Times of Nikola Tesla - Biography of a Genius,” who will be speaking at 1 p.m.
The event will feature various performances including musical glasses concerts at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. by Miss Gloria Parker, swing-era songwriter, bandleader, musician, and famed advocate for musicians’ radio rights. Kip Rosser will perform on the Theremin, the first electronic music instrument, at 12 noon and 2 p.m. Also at 2 p.m., Herb Norman will perform “Prime Time Radio,” a look back at the Golden Age of Radio.

Visitors are invited to a “Meet and Greet” with radio and TV personalities, as well as people behind the scenes, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. At the event, various exhibitors and displays will be set up, including Long Island wireless, radio and television history (a collaboration of Long Island Wireless Historical Society, Sayville Historical Society, Rocky Point Historical Society, Freeport Historical Society, and WGBB), Antique radios and equipment for sale, Friends of Science East, Sarnoff Library, Telecare, Old-time radio shows for sale, Ham Radio (Long Island Mobile Amateur Radio Club, Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club, The Radio Club of Junior High School 22), Telephone history display (Long Island Telephone Pioneers), American Red Cross Mobile Disaster Communications Van, Crystal Radio Display, WLIU/88.3, and Fire Island Lighthouse, as well as tours of the WCWP Radio Studios in the Benjamin Abrams Communications Center, located next to the Tilles Center.
