C.W. Post Announces Lineup for 2009 Provost Distinguished Lecture Series
Brookville, NY—The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is hosting its second annual Provost Distinguished Lecture Series throughout the Fall semester, covering a wide range of topics with an impressive roster of speakers. All lectures are free and open to the public.
Established by C.W. Post Provost Dr. Paul H. Forestell, the Provost Distinguished Lecture Series features prominent leaders and thinkers from around the world and among the C.W. Post faculty who share their experiences and expertise on topics of interest to the Long Island community.
“This is a great opportunity for us to connect as a community and garner enlightenment from leaders in their respective fields,” said Dr. Forestell, who is in his second year as Provost of C.W. Post Campus.
This fall’s lineup includes Political Scientist Michael Soupios, networking guru Beth Meixner, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, suspense novelist Thomas Fahy, wine expert Louisa Thomas Hargrave and National Teacher of the Year Anthony Mullen.
The schedule for the 2009 Provost Distinguished Lecture Series is as follows:
- “The Ten Golden Rules: Ancient Wisdom from the Greek Philosophers on Living the Good Life,” with Dr. Soupios, Friday, September 25, 3 to 5 p.m., Lorber Hall, Room 100
- “The Art of Networking” with Beth Meixner, Director, Moxxie Network, Wednesday, September 30, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Great Hall, Winnick House
- “Crime, Counterterrorism & Community Relations,” with Raymond W. Kelly, Police Commissioner, City of New York, Tuesday, October 27, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Great Hall, Winnick House
- “In Cold Blood: Understanding Horror in Art and Culture,” with Thomas Fahy, Suspense Novelist, C.W. Post Associate Professor of English and Director of American Studies, Wednesday, October 28, 11 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a book signing for Dr. Fahy’s novel, “Sleepless,” Hillwood Commons lecture hall.
- “Pioneering Wine: Lessons Learned on the Front Lines of Creating a New Wine Region,” with Louisa Thomas Hargrave, Co-Founder of Hargrave, Long Island’s First Vineyard and Winery, Friday, November 13, 8 to 9:30 p.m., Lobby, B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library
- “Recovering Lost Students: How Teachers Can Address the Emotional Health of Students,” with Anthony Mullen, National Teacher of the Year, 1990 Graduate of C.W. Post, Monday, December 7, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Great Hall, Winnick House
