Rita Langdon serves as Director of Public Relations for Long Island University’s campuses in Brookville (C.W. Post), Brentwood, Rockland and Southampton, as well as locations in Riverhead and Manhattan. She also is an Associate Provost of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

An award-winning public relations specialist and journalist, Rita helps direct internal and external communications for one of the largest private universities in the nation. Her responsibilities include media relations, news and information, Web site communications, recruitment publications, advertising coordination, community relations, employee relations, crisis management, as well as video and photography services.

She serves as editor of Post Press, the faculty-staff newsletter and as managing editor of Tree Talk, an environmental newsletter produced for the C.W. Post Community Arboretum. She also is a contributing writer to C.W. Post Today, a newsletter for local residents, as well as the Long Island University Magazine, which provides news and information for the University’s 157,000 alumni.

She was responsible for creating the University’s first Community Relations outreach program, which has resulted in strengthened ties with area residents and government officials and she organizes special events for the public to encourage them to experience campus life.

Rita came to the C.W. Post Campus in 1991 as Chief News Writer and was appointed Director of Public Relations in 1995.  Prior to coming to C.W. Post, Rita worked as an editor, investigative reporter and feature writer for Anton Community Newspapers, a chain of 22 weekly newspapers on Long Island. For five years she edited one of Anton's most popular papers, the Hicksville Illustrated News, taking the subscription base from 800 to almost 4,000. She was also a business reporter and special advertising supplements coordinator for the Economic Times of Long Island, and was the recipient of a Long Island Press Club award for deadline reporting.

Rita has been honored for her efforts by peers in her field, and was awarded the Achievement in Communications Award from the International Association of Business Communicators-Long Island Chapter (IABC). She also earned a Silver Quill Award from IABC for a community relations campaign she co-developed with a colleague titled "Making Peace with the Neighbors."

Rita lectures at professional events on the topic of public and community outreach, and has mentored hundreds of students who are now working professionals in the field. She has been invited to serve as a judge on various panels, including the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. She is also an adjunct professor in the Media Arts Department at the C.W. Post Campus where she teaches a course in Community Relations. She is the co-author of the book, "Hillwood: The Long Island Estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post" and is currently writing a book on the history of the C.W. Post Campus, titled “Pioneering College.”

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism in 1991 and her Master of Arts degree in English in 1995, both from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

In her spare time she enjoys traveling and gardening.

Gina Bigelow was appointed Associate Director of Public Relations in October 2006.

In this role, Gina facilitates public relations initiatives for Long Island University’s C.W. Post Campus in Brookville, the Brentwood and Riverhead campuses in Suffolk County, and the Rockland Graduate Campus in Orangeburg, New York. Her duties include assisting the public relations director with internal and external functions, as well as media relations, producing news releases, Web site content, and coordinating special events.

Gina is a seasoned public relations professional who comes to C.W. Post with solid experience in corporate, external and internal communications with an expertise that spans the business, health and not-for-profit industries.

Prior to joining the staff at C.W. Post, she was assistant director of public affairs at the Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System in New York City where she facilitated all aspects of the organization’s communications and public relations initiatives. In this role, Gina also served as a regional editor of Vim & Vigor magazine and editor of the employee newsletter while assisting in the day-to-day and long-range activities of the department.

Prior to her position at the Jewish Home and Hospital, Gina worked with the New York City Health & Hospital Corporation at Elmhurst Hospital Center and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts in 1983 from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

 

Assistant Director of Public Relations

Morgan Lyle was appointed Assistant Director of Public Relations in November 2005. In this position he assists with public relations activities for Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus in Brookville; the Brentwood and Southampton Graduate Campuses in Suffolk County; and the Rockland Graduate Campus in Orangeburg, New York.

His responsibilities include writing news releases, brochures, newsletters and Web site text as well as promoting the myriad activities of students, faculty and staff to local, national and world-wide media outlets.

Before joining the staff at C.W. Post, Morgan was a freelance writer for The New York Times, Newsday and other publications. He was a reporter for United Press International from 1991 to 1993 and for The Daily Gazette in Schenectady, N.Y. from 1993 to 2000. He is a regular contributor to several outdoor lifestyle publications.

 

Director of Community Relations

Jennifer Fitzpatrick was appointed Director of Community Relations at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in October, 2001. Prior to this position she coordinated conferences and special events at Hofstra University for more than 11 years.

At C.W. Post, Jennifer is responsible for outreach efforts to local residents; keeping the community informed of campus projects; and organizing special events for local neighbors, such as Tennis Day, art and music programs for children, arboretum tours, lectures and concerts. In addition, Jennifer responds to community inquiries and implements programs to meet the intellectual, cultural and recreational needs of residents in the neighborhood.

She is the editor of two community newsletters: " C.W. Post Today" and "Tree Talk" (a publication about the C.W. Post Community Arboretum)

Jennifer earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from SUNY Stony Brook and a master's degree in counselor education at Hofstra University.

 

Public Relations Communications Associate

Lynn O'Pasek was appointed Communications Associate at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on March 20, 2000. Prior to this position, she was employed in the Marketing Department at Doubleday Direct.

At Doubleday Direct, Lynn was an integral part of the book publisher's marketing team. She assisted managers and directors in developing new tests, ideas and creative concepts for increasing new membership into different book clubs. She coordinated, monitored and analyzed final campaign results for various media.

In the Office of Public Relations at C.W. Post, Lynn assists both the Director and Associate Director in fostering media and community relations. She creates and issues a C.W. Post Monthly Calendar of current events to the public and coordinates campus photography. Lynn is a liaison between the University and local media.

Lynn earned her bachelor's degree in mass communications from Towson State University in Maryland.

 

Project Manager and Campus Historian

Kenneth Mensing joined the Public Relations staff as Project Manager in September 2002. He coordinates and manages the C.W. Post, Brentwood, Riverhead and Southampton web sites, edits and maintains the C.W. Post Undergraduate and Graduate course catalogs, and conducts research for public relations materials.

In addition Ken serves as the Campus historian for the Office of Public Relations and presents lectures and tours to schools and community groups concerning the history of the C.W. Post Campus. Ken's specialty is the early history of the campus (1911-1954), which is the former estate of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. He has conducted extensive research on the Post family at Hillwood Museum in Washington, D.C., the Bentley Historical Library in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Winterthur Museum in Deleware and the Long Island Studies Institute. Ken is the co-author of "Hillwood: The Long Island Estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post," which is the only known comprehensive history of the Brookville residence of Marjorie Post and the legendary stockbroker E.F. Hutton (see www.liu.edu/history/marj_merri.html)

Ken also widely lectures on the history of the magnificent campus grounds and landscape as part of the C.W. Post Community Arboretum (www.liu.edu/arboretum) program. He has researched the archives of renowned landscape architect Marian Cruger Coffin who designed the campus gardens.

Ken has been employed with Long Island University since 1992. He has a bachelor's degree from Adelphi University and an Advanced Certificate in Archives & Records Management from the Palmer School of Library and Information Science at C.W. Post.
