Learn How to Use the E-Commerce Revolution to Your Advantage
Seminar to be held at the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville
 
March 19, 2001 - A two-day seminar and workshop titled "Exploiting the E-Commerce Revolution to Your Advantage: Business, Design, and Implementation Issues," will be held on May 15 and 16, 2001 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY.

Aimed at non-technical middle management professionals and CEOs of small businesses, the seminar will be hosted by Dr. Shailendra Palvia, director of Management Information Systems in the C.W. Post College of Management; Patrick Aievoli, director of the Interactive Multimedia Arts Graduate Program in the C.W. Post School of Visual and Performing Arts; and Dwight Peltzer, professor in the Computer Science Department in C.W. Post's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The seminar will be divided into four modules, each covering a broad range of topics including the technology needed to launch an effective e-commerce initiative; strategies for entering the virtual marketplace; legal, ethical and taxation issues related to e-commerce; choosing an Internet provider; registration with popular search engines; and software and programming tools in e-commerce. Participants will also learn how to use the Internet to build customer loyalty and develop virtual brand recognition.

Keynote speakers are David Strom, president of David Strom, Inc. of Port Washington, NY (on May 15) and Dr. Steven G. Heim, consultant and adjunct faculty member at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University (May 16).

David Strom founded his company in 1992 with the mission of improving the quality of networked products, explaining Internet technologies to corporate computing managers, and helping early-stage Internet technology companies. He writes frequent product reviews, essays and articles ­ in total, over 1,000 to date. He was the founder of Network Computing magazine in 1990 and helped launch PC Week's Connectivity networking supplement in 1987. He holds a Master of Science degree in Operations Research.

Dr. Steven Heim specializes in telecommunications, privacy and Internet security, multimedia development, and interactive interface design. His clients include Parent Partners, eScore, CCS Inc., Barbara Brundige and DP Software.

Registration for the seminar is $250 per day or $400 for both days. Seminar materials, lunch, and refreshments are included. (Group discount of 15% for companies that register two or more individuals.) Participants will meet in room 228 in the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library on the C.W. Post Campus. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Shailendra C. Palvia is professor and director of Management Information Systems at the Long Island University. His research is focused on management of the systems development process, mode of use in problem solving, implementation issues for MIS/DSS, global information technology, software training methods, and global electronic commerce. Dr. Palvia is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information Technology Cases and Applications (JITCA) and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Global Information Technology Management (JGITM).   Patrick J. Aievoli is a full time faculty member in the Digital Arts and Design program and the director of the Interactive Multimedia Arts graduate program at Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus. Professor Aievoli has developed new media solutions for accounts such as; American Express Travel Related Services, Tommy Hilfiger USA, BancBoston, NYNEX, McGraw-Hill, SIGS Publishing, Universal Instruments Corporation, New York Islanders, SMC Microsystems, LinuxWorld IDG.   Dwight Peltzer, well known software consultant, lecturer, and professor of computer science, specializes in writing interactive software systems for the World Wide Web using C++, Java, XML, ASP, COM+, and the latest most recently released web technologies. Professor Peltzer is a member of the Computer Science/Management Engineering Department at C.W. Post Campus, Long Island University.
